A Show and a Talk

I love the lectures at California College of the Arts, and last night was one of the best.  Making this event even better was the biennial Alumni/Faculty art show. Since I am both Alum and Faculty, I participated, along with some of my favorite people and artists, including Owen Smith (both art and person pictured above), Grim Wilkins, Mike Manomivibul, John Hersey, Dugald Stermer, Barron Storey, et al. The art show as super inspirational and humbling and it also ended up being a class reunion of sorts, as my (extremely successful) classmates Jon Stich, Melissa Garden Streblow, Vincent Perea, Carl De Torres and Jorge Mascarenhas were in attendance.

The show was followed by the main event: an alumni lecture. The lecture featured a panel of alumni from ten years out to two years out.  Featured were: Charles Glaubitz, Lisel Ashlock, Carl De Torres, Vincent Perea, and Brynn Metheney. Each talk was unique and really showed the breadth of experience and approaches in illustration. It was especially good for the students to see the journey at various steps of the way. And Charles was especially inspirational and honest. Please check out all their work! And special thanks to Alexis Mahrus for putting this altogether. I am so proud to be part of this department.
